About the Arabo-Friesian
A touch of desert blood makes them specially tuned Friesians: Arabo-Friesians find more and more enthusiasts among equestrians.
A good Arabo-Friesian needs to look like a beautiful, modern Friesian, that carries the strenghtened heart and lungs of the best thoroughbred Arabian. The ideal ratio is around 20 % Arabian and the rest mainly pure Friesian blood. These horses are very suitable for sports and pleasure, under saddle or for carriage driving. The Arabo-Friesian is a perfect synergy of all the good qualities of both breeds. They get their kind and gentle disposition, their cooperative attitude, their willingness to work and their baroque charm form the Friesian. Whereas the flexibility, the great endurance, the extra heart and lung volume and the ability for speedy recovery, are provided by the Arabian blood.
The gaits are less high-stepping, in comparison with the average Friesian; movements are more economical, in step, as well as in trot and gallop, showing a lot of flexibility, for a smooth transition form combined to working or stretched gaits.
The Arabo-Friesian is an alert, submissive, very docile horse with potential for sports, like other warmbloods.
